Adventurous bike tour in the snow——Test of the Grundig E-Bike GCB-1 + ETB2800 + ECB2800
Heiko Gärtner, Shania Tolinka, and Franz Bujor are the adventurers who, with their unique character and passion for sustainable tourism, are recognized as Germany's most famous survival experts and extreme journalists. They are the minds behind the "longest charity walk journey in the world" and gather knowledge about natural healing methods on their mobile expedition. As partners of the Grundig brand, they travel on Grundig e-bikes and combine their love of adventure with a commitment to social and ecological responsibility. This time, they received three electric bicycles from Grundig, namely the GCB-1, the ETB2800, and the ECB2800, and are preparing for an adventure on two wheels in ice and snow!
In this adventure, the three will each ride one of the three different electric bicycles 20 kilometers to a post station in ice and snow to pick up a package. This is by no means an easy challenge. Riding 40 kilometers at high speed in subzero temperatures is an enormous challenge for both humans and bicycles. The extremely low temperatures shorten the operating time of the electric bicycle's battery and pose a strict test for the battery's cold resistance. But the three bicycles themselves have successfully completed this journey.
Additionally, the slippery and uneven gravel road on the ice is also a big hurdle. But the three still ride fearlessly. The Grundig electric bicycles have not disappointed their trust. The tires have good grip and the ride is very smooth without accidents. Furthermore, the ride on the gravel road is not very bumpy.
"This suspension works very well. The position of the handlebars and the saddle is also very good. The ride is very comfortable." After a strenuous and cold bike ride, there is nothing better than coming home, lighting a fire, and enjoying a dinner. "The adventure ends here for now. A good salad and fresh cheese, nothing more to expect."
After the bike tour, they also analyzed the performance and characteristics of the three Grundig bicycles and shared the necessary tips and precautions for long bike tours with electric bicycles. They specifically analyzed the advantages of mid-drive motors and hub motors. Mid-drive motors have the best weight distribution and make almost no noise, while hub motors wear the chain less and can reduce pedaling effort during the ride.
The GCB-1, for example, uses a powerful mid-drive motor Bafang M410 (36V - 250W). In addition to the advantages mentioned above, it also has an enormous torque of 80 Nm. Equipped with a torque sensor in the motor, it ensures an even more comfortable and smooth ride. Furthermore, the GCB-1 also has the advantage of a larger battery capacity (540 Wh) and a higher load capacity (122 KG).
The ECB2800 and the ETB2800, on the other hand, use a 250 W VINKA RH30 brushless hub motor and are equipped with a cadence sensor. Riding on normal road sections is even easier with this. Compared to the GCB-1, the entire vehicle is lighter and more flexible. It also has the practical advantage that you can shift gears at any time while riding or standing. "This is a real city bike. It shows that it is suitable both for the city and for adventure."
